Activity:
Clinical Engagement:
*The PCT engages with pharmacists at all stages of commissioning, strategy planning, determining needs, and setting priorities.
*Can demonstrate partnership between pharmacy, practice-based commissioning and professional executive committee.
*PBC commissioning and pharmacy commissioning are integrated and fully part of PCT strategic planning processes
LPC Comments:
*Level 1 is achieved and there is a real prospect for achieving Level 2
*PCT should promote leadership and organisational development programmes.
*The PCT has engaged with pharmacy at the forums. Also pharmacists fully engaged with the PNA
*However PEC and PBC needs pharmacy input.
*When developing Governance for future commissioners LPC must be included to avoid primary care equating to GP care.
*Enhanced services are developing well and work is appreciated by the pharmacists.
*Extending the range when primary care is being re-engineered in a significant way requires fuller exploration of the workforce capability and capacity to ensure choice, quality, competition and access.

LPC Comments:
*There is a greater need to develop enough clinical services to make this section relevant to community pharmacy.
*There is a need for an evaluation of the workforce needs and capabilities to design a programme of support to improve quality and range of services.
*Some of the services are discussed at the forums to enable sharing of experience.
*Medicines Management Team is enthusiastic and supportive. Public Health and Commissioning could learn.
*There is a need for quality improvement programme with incentives similar to Tower Hamlets.

LPC Comments:
*There is a need for a clearly understood strategy for engagement with pharmacy on clinical matters.
*Strategic planning selectively involves
*Pharmacy which leads to frustration and doubt about the intentions.
*The PCT can lead the country by being more open and clarifying its intentions and responsibility and level of commitment needed from pharmacists. Input from the CEO or medical director has been well received and appreciated.
